  1. Zombie Bus

    Saturday, July 30, 2011

The bus lives! She's not exactly ship shape but at least she has a pulse. After almost three months of working and  waiting the great Westfalia limped back to life sporting a nasty exhaust leak and an engine very far out of time with itself. The task now falls to me to nurse her back to health. Today I isolated and repaired one of the two exhaust leaks. Tomorrow I will time the engine and see how it goes.

  2. Samson and Delilah

    Saturday, June 18, 2011

Those of you who aren't in the know might be wondering where my blog title comes from. Well to answer that question I need to dig deep into the history of rock music all the way back to the days of the good ol' Grateful Dead. That's right, I'm a Deadhead: One of those hippy dippy fuckers you see running around festivals with 13 point lightning bolts all over everything they own. Yup, that's me and it's something you should keep in mind if you intend to follow this blog any Furthur (ha ha...inside joke). The title comes from the song "Samson and Delilah". Check it out if you want to. I've posted it below.

  3. This Is My Life

    Saturday, June 4, 2011

The ground under my feet is real. The air I breathe is real. The life is lead is surreal. That happens when adventure becomes something that fills every crack of your heart rather than something that creeps under the door to leave its droppings on your doormat from time to time.

Allow me to set the stage for this journey:
My home is a 1978 VW Westfalia named Dorothy (the engine's name is Toto) and whatever land she happens to be parked in. My security net is my own wit and know-how and the kindness of strangers. My partner in crime and love is a beauty named Laura. My name is Matt; this is my story.

  4. A Eulogy Before Rising

    Thursday, June 2, 2011

Let it be said that I am alive.
My frame a straight backed silhouette in the sun.
No moments wasted, no riverbeds dry,
    No boughs broken.

Let it be said that I was once dead.
My life returned to the earth.
My bones lie naked beneath the clay,
    White and perfect.
